The Boston Celtics have pulled off a blockbuster trade down under, sending four-time All-Star center Al Horford and a 2020 first-round pick to the Sydney Kings in exchange for Australian guard Matthew Dellavedova and a 2022 second-round pick.
The move is a major coup for the Kings, who have been looking to add a star player to their roster after a disappointing season last year. Horford will bring a wealth of experience and veteran leadership to the Kings and should be an immediate boost to their offense.
Dellavedova, meanwhile, gives the Celtics a starting-caliber guard who can help them in the backcourt. He can also help them with his experience playing international basketball, having represented his home country Australia in the 2016 Olympics.
The trade is a win-win for both sides. The Celtics get some much needed depth at guard, while the Kings get an instant star. It also allows the Celtics to clear some salary cap space for the future, which could be used to bring in another star.
